LBS to KG Calculator
One pound is exactly 0.45359237 kilograms by international agreement, so this conversion is precise. Stones are used mainly in the UK and Ireland for body weight, where 1 stone equals 14 pounds.
To convert lbs to kg, divide the pounds by 2.20462, or multiply by 0.453592. So 150 lbs is 68.04 kg, 160 lbs is 72.57 kg, and 180 lbs is 81.65 kg. The calculator also shows the result in grams and stones.
How do you convert lbs to kg?
Divide the pounds by 2.20462. That gives you kilograms. So 150 lbs is 68.04 kg, and 200 lbs is 90.72 kg.
You can also multiply by 0.453592 instead. Both routes land on the same number because they are two ways of writing the same relationship. Divide if you think in ratios, multiply if you prefer a single step.
The relationship is fixed, not estimated. In 1959, six countries signed the International Yard and Pound Agreement and defined one pound as exactly 0.45359237 kilograms. Every pounds to kg conversion since then traces back to that single line of text.
For rough mental math, halve the pounds and knock off ten percent. 150 becomes 75, minus 7.5, which gives 67.5 kg. The real answer is 68.04, so you are about half a kilo light. Fine for guessing luggage weight, not fine for a medication dose.
LBS to KG formula
kg = lbs ÷ 2.20462
Or: kg = lbs × 0.45359237
The multiplication version is more precise because 0.45359237 is the exact defined value, while 2.20462 is a rounded reciprocal. Under 100 lbs you will never see the difference. Above 500 lbs it starts showing up in the second decimal place.
This calculator runs the multiplication version internally, so the results stay exact no matter how large the number.

What is 150 lbs in kg?
150 lbs is 68.04 kg, or 10 stone 10 lb.
This is one of the most searched conversions in the world, and the reason is medical. Clinical dosing charts, gym programs, and BMI calculators outside the US all run on kilograms, while American scales report pounds. Anyone moving between those two systems hits 150 lbs early.
For someone 5’6″, 68.04 kg gives a BMI of 24.2, just inside the healthy range.
What is 160 lbs in kg?
160 lbs is 72.57 kg, or 11 stone 6 lb.
Round it to 72.6 kg for everyday use. Keep the full 72.5748 if you are calculating a medication dose, because per-kilogram dosing multiplies your rounding error along with everything else.
What is 180 lbs in kg?
180 lbs is 81.65 kg, or 12 stone 12 lb.
This one shows up a lot in fitness contexts. Powerlifting and Olympic weightlifting both score in kilograms, so a 180 lb lifter competing internationally registers as 81.65 kg and gets slotted into the 81 kg or 89 kg class depending on the federation.
How many kg is 1 lb?
1 lb is 0.45359237 kg, usually written as 0.454 kg or just 0.45 kg.
Which rounding you use depends on scale. At 10 lbs, using 0.45 instead of 0.4536 costs you 36 grams. At 1000 lbs it costs 3.6 kg, which is enough to matter on a freight invoice.
How many pounds are in a kilogram?
One kilogram is 2.2046226 pounds.
That is the reverse of the same fixed relationship. Divide 1 by 0.45359237 and 2.2046226218 falls out. The long decimal is not an estimate, it is just what that division produces.
Most people shorten it to 2.2, which works fine below 50 kg. Past that, the gap crosses a full pound.
What is 50 lbs in kg?
50 lbs is 22.68 kg.
This number matters if you fly. US airlines cap checked bags at 50 lbs, while most international carriers cap at 23 kg, which is 50.71 lbs. So a bag packed to the international limit is 0.71 lbs over the American one.
If your trip mixes both, pack to 22.5 kg and you clear either counter without an argument.
LBS to KG for body weight and stones
The UK and Ireland still measure body weight in stones. One stone equals 14 pounds, or 6.35 kg.
| Pounds | Stones and pounds | Kilograms |
|---|---|---|
| 112 lbs | 8 st 0 lb | 50.80 kg |
| 126 lbs | 9 st 0 lb | 57.15 kg |
| 140 lbs | 10 st 0 lb | 63.50 kg |
| 154 lbs | 11 st 0 lb | 69.85 kg |
| 168 lbs | 12 st 0 lb | 76.20 kg |
| 182 lbs | 13 st 0 lb | 82.55 kg |
| 196 lbs | 14 st 0 lb | 88.90 kg |
| 210 lbs | 15 st 0 lb | 95.25 kg |
The calculator splits every result into stones automatically once you pass 14 lbs, so you get all three units in one go.
Converting libras a kilos
In Spanish-speaking countries, pounds are called libras and kilograms are kilos. The conversion is identical: divide the libras by 2.20462.
150 libras son 68.04 kilos. 200 libras son 90.72 kilos.
Note that some Latin American markets historically used a libra of around 0.46 kg, slightly heavier than the international pound. Old land records and traditional recipes occasionally still use it. Anything sold or measured today uses the international 0.45359237 kg pound.

Common mistakes when converting lbs to kg
- Multiplying when you should divide. Multiplying 150 by 2.20462 gives 330.7, which is the wrong direction. Pounds to kilograms always produces a smaller number.
- Confusing pounds with stones. A 154 lb person is 11 stone. If your result looks strangely small, you probably read stones.
- Using 2.2 on heavy loads. At 1000 lbs the shortcut leaves you 1.9 kg short. Freight and shipping paperwork will catch that.
- Rounding before you convert. Convert first, round at the end. Rounding 154.6 lbs down to 154 costs you nearly 300 grams.
- Mixing up mass and force. Pounds here means pound-mass. Pound-force is a different unit used in engineering and does not convert with this formula.
Where lbs to kg conversions actually get used
- Medicine. Almost all drug dosing outside the US is per kilogram. A nurse handed an American chart in pounds converts before anything else happens.
- Air travel. Baggage limits are in kilograms nearly everywhere except domestic US routes.
- Strength sports. Every barbell plate, competition total, and weight class is in kilograms. A 225 lb bench press is 102.06 kg.
- Shipping. International freight documents run on kilograms. A pallet listed at 500 lbs enters the system as 226.8 kg.
- Cooking. European and Asian recipes list meat and flour in kilograms. A 3 lb roast is 1.36 kg.
